Do you know what this is?
It is my latest Vitamix creation, tres en uno (three in one).
The picture does not do it justice. It is actually a vibrant fuchsia color. I was trying to snap a relatively decent picture without spilling it everywhere, including on our freshly painted white walls.
Unlike in the United States where juice has been demonized, fresh juice is incredibly popular in Venezuela as well as in many other Central and South American countries. With good reason, too. Juice is refreshing and packed with nutrients.
We seemed to have forgotten this after the first natural foods store boom in the mid seventies to early eighties. Now, juice is relegated to infomercials and diet fasts. It is time to redeem juice.
Tres en uno is the quintessential juice. As the name suggests, it includes three ingredients: orange, carrot, and beet. With the farmer’s market in full bloom, it seemed like the appropriate time to give this a whirl (pun intended) at home.
Tres en uno
Serves 1
1 cup orange juice (yes, you could use a whole orange and some water instead)
1 medium carrot
1 medium or 3 very small beets
Ice
Blend all ingredients in your Vitamix or blender. If you do not have a Vitamix, I recommend straining your juice before serving (unless you like it really pulpy).
Buen provecho!
