Will travel for food…

Well hello folks. Before I dive into things… have you made the dressing from this yet? Please do. Seriously. Just had it on my salad tonight – I licked the plate.

Okay, now that that’s out of the way… We just returned from a nice little trip to Charleston. We had the opportunity to go to a beautiful wedding that doubled as a college reunion all on the beach. Life is good. While we were down South we decided to dip down to Savannah for a night. Such a good idea. Savannah is so very beautiful!

If you have read anything I’ve written before you know that exploring a place trough its food is my jam. While in Savannah we ate the best meal this southern girl has had in years. We went to a cozy little place called Mrs. Wilkes Dining Room. I’d tell you to make a reservation, but they don’t do that. I’d tell you to go for dinner, but they don’t do that. I’d say be sure to swing in on your next weekend trip to GA, but they don’t do weekends either.

Mrs. Wilkes is only open 11-2 Monday through Friday. It’s first come first served which meant on the Friday we were there we waited in line for 1.5 hours. It smelled like fried chicken the whole time.

Every table seats 10. Every table eats the same thing. Every table was so so so very happy.

You will have to excuse the quality of the pictures. It’s REALLY hard to get a table of eight strangers to wait to eat incredible southern food sitting in front of them after waiting in line for 1.5 hours all for some photo.

So if you happen to find yourself in Savannah for lunch on a weekday you would be silly to pass this place up. It’s the only time in my life when I’ve had food anywhere near as good as my granny’s – and that’s some damn good food y’all.
