Tuesday Night Crits

by Amanda on May 9, 2012

Tuesday nights have become one of my favorite nights of the week. When weather is perfect, I rush home from school to get a quick run in before throwing together a picnic dinner, spare undies (for Kaler), and a few toys for Kaler. When it’s rainy or I’m running late, I just skip the run and either pick Kaler up on my bike w/ burley or simply drive.

Where are we going? Tuesday Night World Crits. Crits? Oh…you must not be in on the lingo. Crits = criterium. These short but intense races have been circling Yellow Circle Drive in Minnetonka for almost ten years. Racers pay $15 + $10 for a one time license. They they battle it out over 9 loops that are a little under a mile each. Racers compete for points to help move them up in their rankings or even make a little money back. The top point winner in each race gets $15. I know…it’s totally worth hyperventilating afterward. Rules are a little tricky, so I’ll spare you all the little details.

We are fortunate in that the Crits are super closer to our house. We get there before 6pm and the two races we watch are over by 7pm. Dave usually races, but even when he doesn’t we like to go and cheer on the racers. Kaler is a huge fan. His newest obsession is taking photos…and they are actually pretty good! Still under 2.5 years of age, he’s got some mad talent.

OH, and a note on the spare undies…we’ve never needed them. And in fact, Kaler learned to pee outside for the first time last week at the crits. It’s all happening so fast!

Unfortunately, there are only two more weeks of Crits and then we’ll have to find another fun way to spend our Tuesday evenings.

Any ideas?
