Will I ever get bored with the CSA? Doubtful. Boxes of beautiful produce area always welcome in my home.

This weeks devliery did not dissapoint. Surprised?

Here’s what the fridge looked like after:

And the countertop:

The yellowy tomato looking things are persimmons. My first one!

The Details:

  • Portugese Kale – This is large and leafy. I don’t think I’ve had it before. Apparently the stalks are edible too if you peel them.
  • Potatoes
  • Sweet Potatoes – I haven’t used my sweet potatoes from the last pick-up. I think I feel a pot of soup coming on.
  • Brussels Sprouts
  • Red Onion
  • Red Russian Garlic
  • Carrots
  • Broccoli
  • Beauty Heart Radish
  • Sugar Dumpling Squash
  • Romanesco – more dinosaur looking cauliflower!
  • Salad Mix

  • Thomcord Grapes – a cross between a Thompson Green Grape and the Concord Grape
  • Valencia Oranges – I hope these stop the cold I feel coming on!
  • Fuji Apples
  • Emerald Beaut Plums
  • Persimmons – I have never had one of these. So curious. It looks like an orange tomato.
  • Kiwi – How do you eat a kiwi? Brette eats the whole thing – skin and all – claiming it’s too much work to peel such a small fruit. I tend to peel and slice.
  • Haas Avocados – I will never get sick of a big avocado supply.
  • Warren Pears

I will never get sick of picking up our CSA box. Never.

The season has definitely changed over to fall. There are a lot more root vegetables this time around. Please hear me – I’m not complaining. I’m loving the change to heartier soups, stews and things you can roast. Fall is by far my favorite time of year.

Most intriguing vegetable in this box? This guy.

Broccoli Romanesco. I’ve seen it at the market before, but have never actually tried it. Apparently it is similar to a cauliflower. Have any of you tried it? Thoughts?

The full veggie box included:

  • Red Sweetheart Cabbage
  • Salad Mix
  • Red and yellow onions
  • Spaghetti Squash
  • Honeynut Butternut Squash – I cannot wait to try this!
  • Sweet Potatoes
  • Broccoli Romanesco
  • Broccoli
  • Carrots
  • Purple Viking Potatoes
  • Green Curly Kale
  • Celeriac

The best part of the Fruit Share?

Pomegranates! I love this fruit. To me it is totally worth a few minutes to harvest all the juicy seeds (see my tutorial here). I haven’t decided what I’ll do with them quite yet, but I can’t wait to break one open.

The full Fruit Share included:

  • Pippin Apples
  • Asian Pears
  • Biodynamic Limes
  • Pomegranates
  • Biodynamic Thompson Grapes
  • Brown Turkey Figs
  • Braeburn Apples

What foods are you enjoying this fall?

Man do I love CSA days. My fridge goes from empty to overflowing with produce in a snap. I then have the basis for multiple plant based meals. How awesome is that?

Here’s what was in this week’s box:

  • Potatoes
  • Garlic
  • Yellow Onions
  • Cheddar Cauliflower – I think it’s just called that due to it’s color.
  • Carrots – A carrot soup is in my future.
  • Celery
  • Broccoli
  • Iceberg Lettuce – I cannot remember the last time I had iceberg in my fridge. I’m thinking of using it as a taco topping. Or an old school salad?
  • Baby Bok Choi
  • Radishes
  • Delicata Squash – my all time favorite squash! Did you know you don’t have to peel it? Here’s one of my favorite recipes.

  • Hass Avocados – Keep em’ coming!
  • Warren Pears – I’ve never seen a pear like this. The skin is a yellowy brown green. I can’t wait to try it.
  • Red Globe Grapes
  • Gala Apples
  • Granny Smith Apples – I love granny smiths chopped up in salad that also includes red cabbage and walnuts. One of my favorite combinations.
  • Pluots – the pluots just keep coming!
  • Valencia Oranges – the size of my head.

What produce is in your fridge this week?

As I mentioned on Monday, we have a lot going on in our house. I promise, I will disclose details shortly. It is mainly good stuff happening but I have still felt extremely overwhelmed all week. So, all though I was very excited to pick up our CSA, it also overwhelmed me. There is just so much produce! How am going to use it all? What am I going to do with a head of cauliflower the size of my head? When will I find time to cook? Ahhh!!!

I then reminded myself to take a chill pill and rejoice in the fact that my fridge is now happily filled with delicious produce which will be perfect nourishment during this busy time. Yes, that’s a much better spin.

In my rush to pick up the share and drop it at my house before heading out the door again, I did not snap a photo. You will have to let your imagination paint the picture of what showed up in our box of goodies.

Veggie Share:

  • Gold Beets – for the love of beets!  These are ginormous!
  • Leeks
  • Potatoes – I’m sensing a potato leek soup in the mix
  • Yellow Onions
  • Garlic
  • Japanese Rose Daikon Radish
  • Spigariello – This is a totally new green to me that I can’t wait to try. Apparently it tastes like broccoli.
  • Carrots
  • Celery
  • Mini Romaine Lettuce – so cute!
  • Poblano Peppers
  • Mini sweet peppers
  • Pimento Peppers
  • Cauliflower – seriously, it’s really big.
  • Tomatoes – last of the season from the CSA.
  • Edamame
  • Saute Mix – a blend of greens

 Fruit Share:

  • Black Mission Figs
  • Green Grapes
  • Bartlett Pears
  • Honeycrsip Apples – my favorite!
  • Keitt Mangos – I’m super pumped about these!
  • Blueberries – these might go straight to the freezer.
  • Hass Avocados – we have a bumper kale crop, so I’m envisioning some massaged kale.
Here’s what I need help with: The beets, radish, and figs. What would you do with them? I need some ideas.
Hope you are all enjoying the fall!

I wasn’t able to pick up this week’s share. I was super bummed but Happy Hour called. Brette took care of the pick-up but saved the unloading for me so I could experience the excitement as well. 🙂

Another great haul and just when my fridge was looking a little bare. It’s definitely full now!

The Veggie Share:

  • Italian Garlic
  • Red onions – they are little and so cute!
  • Potatoes
  • Lemongrass – this was unexpected. I think some Thai food is in order!
  • Broccoli
  • Tomatoes – I now have tomatoes coming out of my ears! I’m going to need to do some preserving.
  • Arugula – Brette’s favorite
  • Celery – I’m definitely making this soup again. It is sooo tasty!
  • Sweet Corn – The last of the season?
  • Edamame
  • Cucumber
  • Mini-sweet peppers – these could not be any more adorable.

Fruit Share:

  • Seedless Grapes
  • Yellow Nectarines
  • Valencia Oranges
  • Dapple Dandy Plout – we are pluot converts as every share has had different varieties. They have all been excellent.
  • Starkrimson Pear – Beautiful red pears.
  • Ginger Gold Apples
  • McIntosh Apples – great baking apples!

It’s pretty much a given I’m going to have to bake something with the apples. The big debate will be if I go with a classic crisp or mix it up. What would you do?
