csa friday

Last night I picked up our second CSA (community supported agriculture) box of the season. The first one came while I was in Spain (!), so I missed out on most of its contents. Our boxes will come every other week so I thought I’d add a CSA post to match showing the various items and what I’ve learned about them. I’m confident there will be some that I am not familiar with and I may need your help. I’m also anticipating some new recipes highlighting some of our spoils. Fun!

Here’s what was in the box this week:

Parsnips – I think a batch of parsnip fries are in order.

Green Garlic – These guys look like green onions but definitely have a more garlicky flavor. We had them in our last box and they were delicious both raw and cooked.

French Breakfast Radish – The newsletter suggested marinating them in soy sauce and red wine vinegar. Doesn’t that sound interesting?

Hon Tsai Tai – A dark Asian green. This is a new green for me that can be eaten raw or sautéed. I love most greens so I’m excited to add this one to the mix.

Potato Onions – I had never heard of these before. They look like bigger green onions and can be used the same way.

Asparagus – One of my favorite vegetables. I will likely be grilling this bunch.

Rhubarb – I think Brette will be snagging this to make rhubarb mouse unless I get to it first to make a rhubarb crisp.

Pea Vine – Otherwise known as pea shoots, They can be eaten raw in salads or stir-fried.

Arugula – Brette’s fav! He’ll be enjoying it in salads I’m sure. I don’t love it quite as much.

Sauté mix – A mix of in–season greens like chard, mustard greens, mizuna, etc. These will either make their way into a green smoothie or I’ll be sautéing them with some onion and garlic.

Garden Herb Pack – Rosemary, oregano, basil, sage, thyme, savory, Italian & curly parsley – all ready to go into the garden. I love fresh herbs!

I think I’m going to have a good week of meals!

What veggies have you been eating lately? Any fellow CSAers?
